European Adventure - Day 19 - Wengen

Today we went up the mountain to the highest railway in Europe - Jungfraujoch. It was an amazing experience and totally worth the A$311 it cost for BJ and I. The kids luckily were covered by the family card we got along with our Swiss Rail Pass. It is a shame the Swiss Pass doesn't cover the mountain cog rail trains, since a 4 day Swiss Pass for just BJ & I set us back over $1000. Switzerland is definitely not cheap! As a way of trying to save some $ here we went to the grocery store and aren't eating out at all - except for up the mountain where we had a hot chocolate each and 2 bowls of chips - to the grand total of A$46.... a lot of $$ but after being out on the snow we just had to have something warm to heat us up!

Here are some pictures - first up pics of our chalet. It is amazing with 4 double bedrooms, 1 has an ensuite, and the other 3 have private balconies, and a fully integrated kitchen with the best mod cons ever... I would love to move into this exact place lol - with one more living room I think!..

Tomorrow we are catching the cable car from Wengen - Mannlichen, and then going to hike to Klein Scheidegg, and either hike back to Mannlichen to get the cable car back (most likely), or catch the train back from Klein Scheidegg. I am really looking forward to that... Now I am off for a run around the village which should be lovely.

European Adventure - Day 18 - Venice / Wengen

Today we travelled from Venice to Wengen in Switzerland. It was a bit of a crazy journey with 6 train changes, but SO worth it! I was very thankful our host from last night messaged me last night to remind me to put my clock forward an hour as Europe started Daylight Saving time. Thank god she did or else we would have missed our train for sure.

These are the train legs we had:

Venice S.L to Venice Mestre - 10 mins. Venice Mestre to Milan - 2 hrs 10 mins. Milan to Bern, Switzerland - 2 hrs 2 hrs 50 mins. Bern to Interlaken - 50 mins. Interlaken to Lauterbrunnen - 20 mins. Lauterbrunnen to Wengen - 14 mins.

So while we had a lot of legs we managed to only have a 20 mins wait in Milan, and all the other trains were waiting for us when we got there. We left our apartment in Venice this morning at 6.40am, and got into the chalet here in Wengen at just after 5pm. So a nice long day!

Here are some pictures of the days train journey.

Tomorrow the plan is for me to get up early to go for a run around Wengen, then we will be catching the train up to the Top of Europe at Jungfraujoch with a picnic lunch. After that we are going to do some tubing / sledding up the mountain and then we want to catch the cable car back down to Wengen, as the cable car station is right near our chalet. The owners of the chalet left toboggans here so we are going to try them out as well on a little run near the chalet.

Right now though I am going to head to bed as I got around 5 hours sleep last night as I was so concerned with the daylight saving changing and wasn't sure my clock would change so was awake at 4.30am......
