Half Marathon Training update

I am a bit under the weather this week which sucks! I had my work fitness test on Thursday which was fine and I passed with flying colours.. but apart from that I am having second thoughts about future plans for my running.

I am just not sure about whether I should do the 10km or 1/2 Marathon this year as I have had a little bit of pain in my foot (which has been there for ages but feeling a bit worse).. and not sure if I should push it! Thinking doing one marathon in 2014 is a great achievement so I don't really need to do any more and maybe I can put that as a goal for 2015 or even 2016 depending on circumstances and where we are living!

Still pondering... now to lie back on the couch and rest up!

I am thinking maybe I have just pushed my body a bit too hard this year with so much running.. I will update when I have made a decision!

Half Marathon Training - Week 3 long run

I can't believe I have completed the end of Week 3 of the Half Marathon training.. I must admit I haven't been thinking too much about the Half Marathon coming up.. I have been doing my runs but not really with all that much effort!! This will all change at the end of Week 4 when I am on leave from work for 4 weeks and can focus on training and diet a lot more. I have lots of plans for the holidays - mainly to keep the children busy and will be sharing those in the next week or so. I am also going to be testing out lots of Thermomix recipes.

Yesterday I did my 15km long run and it wasn't too bad. It was pretty windy and my time was a bit slower than I like (a bit of walking here and there!), but all in all I am pretty happy with it! :)

Here is this week's exercise plan:

Tuesday: 5km run with bootcamp
Wednesday: 2 x 10 min HIIT treadmill run (goal to get as close to 2km in each 10 min)
Thursday: Work fitness test instead of 5km run. So will be doing 45 sit-ups, 8 pushups and 2.4km run.
Friday: Work 5km run/walk
Saturday: 5km ParkRun plus 4km return walk to and from ParkRun
Sunday: 16km Run

I will report back in later this week with what my plans are for the holidays!

4 weeks of fun coming up! :)

HIIT Treadmill Session

Well today my plan was to do my 5km HIIT Treadmill session, followed by a practice 2.4km run with a colleague and then do a walk and situps/pushups with my boss. I was up at 5am and at the gym at 5.30am to meet my friend Kylie to kick off the HIIT session. :)

All I can say is that it was amazing!

I started off doing 400m at level 12, then walking 100m at level 7, and repeated with my run speed between 12-14. I was so buggered but did a great time of 27:34 for 5km which I thought was great since I did walk for 1km all up! :) You can see the intervals in the Garmin data below with my heart rate.. loving the look of this!

After that session I was pretty tired but felt energised. I then did a practice 2.4km run/walk outside with a colleague to help him to be motivated, and then after that I walked 2.8km with my boss and did some sit-ups and pushups to practice for my fitness test next week. So all up just over 10km done before breakfast!!!

Feeling amazing and so motivated to keep up with this training! :)

Queens Birthday Run

I was supposed to do a 5km run yesterday but being a long weekend I decided to chill and not bother... so knew I had to get out and do it today!! So got up early-ish (for a day off), and went for a run around base and just out the front gate to make sure I did my 5km. It was actually quite cool and there was quite a breeze! It was lovely to get out and listen to soon tunes and just get it done!!

Since I have kind of stuffed my schedule up I think I will give tomorrow a little break and then get back into it on Wednesday. Wednesday's plan is treadmill HIIT which on the plan is 400m x 8. I think I will do 400m run, then 100m walk, and do that 10 times through to get to 5km. It will be interesting to see how I go on the treadmill with it. I am hoping it will make my HIIT training a bit more exciting!

Boot Camp Hill Sprints...

OMG what a session!!!

Tonight for boot camp I was hoping for a nice easy session as I did my 5km run as part of my 1/2 Marathon training this morning on the treadmill.. but no such luck! We did hill sprints near Darwin High School and at bottom of the hill between runs up the hill we did 10 x squat presses and 10 x push ups. All up I did 17 hill runs, 170 full push ups and 170 squat presses... talk about pain!! It was fantastic. I do struggle to burn a lot of calories so to burn over 500 calories in just under an hour is great for me, and I am quite impressed.. Here is my Garmin data:

Darwin Half Marathon Training Plan

Darwin Half Marathon is coming up just around the corner. I am quite excited as it is one event I have wanted to do ever since we moved to Darwin back in 2011.. Back then I wasn't terribly fit though so it was a bit of a pipe dream. This year is the year for me to achieve this goal.

I have been searching for a good program for the next 7-ish weeks as I know I can run the distance (maybe with a little walking), but I want to be a bit more prepared. :)

I found this great program and thought with finishing the City to Surf yesterday it worked perfectly.. as that 12km is perfect for my first weeks long run... and means I am now onto Week 2. :)

This program looks very doable and I am loving the HIIT training.. my goal is to do Tuesday & Wednesday on the treadmill and the other runs outside. The Saturday runs I will do with Park Run and the days that it is longer than 5km I will just add a few kms onto the day. :)

I will keep reporting on my progress!! :)

NT City to Surf 2014

My close friend Cynthia and I decided to run the NT City to Surf on Sunday. We have thought about doing it for a few years but we have never managed to get there.. so were stoked to get there this year! :)

It is a 12.4km course and was a fantastic run. There were two hills - one at Darwin High, and the other at Fannie Bay outside the Trailer Boat Club. We both managed to run up both hills and only stop briefly to grab water at the drink stops. My goal was to do under 6min/km, and I did 6.01min/km - so pretty close! I was stoked though with that! :)

The kids have been doing a program at school called Marathon for Kids where they have run 41km over the last 8 weeks at school - so split up between 1-2km each day around the oval. This program culminated with them running the final km at the NT City to Surf. Cyn and I were stoked to finish and have a chance to get a drink and cool down a little before the kids finished, so we could get some pictures and cheer them on!
