Girls weekend in Sydney

When it was announced that Michael Buble was coming back to Australia a few friends and I decided we had to go! So we booked the tickets last August or September in Sydney and planned our girls weekend. It was an added bonus it was on Mothers Day weekend so I could tee up my other fave thing on this weekend which is the Mothers Day Classic fun run. Where else to do it then in the gorgeous Sydney Botanic Gardens.

I flew down on Thursday afternoon and was picked up at Sydney airport by my brother in law Andrew. Once we made it back to my sister Rebecca and Andrew's house it was quite late, so Rebecca and I chatted for a while before heading to bed. The next morning after getting her two big kids off to school, Rebecca, my gorgeous 2yo niece Evie and I headed to Chatswood Westfield to meet our Mum and to do a spot of shopping.

It was a lovely morning and I loved spending time with Evie who is just hilarious and also it was lovely to see my Mum - even if it was briefly.

Once we had caught up with Mum and finished our shopping we drove into the City to meet up with Rebecca's husband (to hand over the precious Evie), so we could get into the City to start our girls weekend!!! Our friends had booked the Meriton World Square Serviced Apartments and it was amazing!! It was on the 66th floor and had the most amazing view.

Our girls group included my best friends for the past 20 years Belinda & Leanne, their Mum Edna (who is like my second Mum!), my sis Beck and my friend Lara. So 6 ladies in a 3 bedroom apartment, and surprising it wasn't too cramped!

We all got ready for our night out and took a few pre-Buble pictures:

After our quick photo shoot we headed out for the train to Olympic Park. Thankfully World Square is very close to Town Hall Station which is a great hub and goes to most places. For dinner we had Ribs & Rumps at Olympic Park and it was delicious and quite good value.. I highly recommend!! I had a steak burger which was fantastic.

After we were all full from dinner we headed to Allphones Arena ready to see Mr Buble!!! Excited was an understatement. He was absolutely incredible. I loved his humour - he had us in stitches. His voice was unbelievable as I knew it would be. Our seats were on the floor just in front of the secondary stage! It was amazing when he was on that stage as we were within touching range!!! So cool!

It was one of the best concerts i've ever been to. :)

The next morning I woke up early as I knew I wanted to fit a run in.. so I headed down to the Botanic Gardens and just listened to my tunes.. it was lovely to get out in Sydney and to stretch my legs. :)

After we were all up and had eaten some breakfast we headed down to Bondi Junction as we were desperate to check out Pottery Barn, Williams & Sonoma & West Elm. We are all into decorating, and pretty things, and I especially am into kitchen gadgets so these stores are just a dream!! They were pretty amazing, but smaller than I thought!!!! I did take some pictures inside of some lounges where I loved the cushions, and my friends took some of Williams & Sonoma and on the train on the way there... I have added them below:

That night we headed out to dinner at Wagamama in the City. I loved it - I had a kind of fried rice which was pretty yummy, and affordable. :)

The next morning was the Mothers Day Classic. I had signed up to the 8km run which started earlier than my friends who were doing the 4km walk. I walked from our hotel down to the start line, and it was a beautiful morning. We thought there would be rain, so were thrilled with the blue sky!

I ran it in 54 mins 52 seconds last year, and absolutely smashed it this year! See this years stats below:

After finishing the 8km I walked back to the starting point to meet up with Belinda, Leanne and Edna so we could walk the 4km. :) It was lovely to be able to walk it with them and soak up the atmosphere!

After finishing I spotted the 12WBT Marquee. I have done a few rounds of the 12WBT so wanted to check it out. I was pleasantly surprised to see Michelle Bridges there so thought I'd line up (it was a very short queue) to get a photo and have a chat. She was absolutely lovely and we had a nice chat about her Half Marathon Running Program and the Paris Marathon. :)

After my brush with fame we wandered back down to a cafe right under our hotel and had a lovely hot breakfast.... then I was dropped off to my sister. I was flying to later that night so it was lovely to spend the afternoon with my sister and her family and just relax!

All in all it was a fantastic weekend.. and I can't wait til we organise our next one... need to work out where it will be and what we will do! I know shopping will definitely be on the agenda! :)

Road Trip to Katherine

I live in Darwin, in the Northern Territory of Australia. It is very remote, hot and hard to adjust to. We have been here 3 1/2 years and do like the good parts of living here - the relaxed lifestyle, hot weather and outdoor activities - like great markets. 6 months of the year it is pretty horrible though as it rains a lot and is super humid.

A close friend of mine, Cyn, moved to Katherine which is in the middle of nowhere 3 hours from Darwin 2 years ago. I have been to visit her once and always vowed go back with my daughter Isabel for a girls weekend. Cyn usually comes to Darwin since there is more to do here, but I thought it was time we visiting her! We managed to do that on the weekend! We had a great time with Cyn & her partner Adam.

I of course took lots of pictures of the weekend to share:

Here is Izzy at the entrance into Katherine:

The very sweet sign to welcome us to Cyn & Adam's place:

The first nights dinner was pizza cooked in their outdoor pizza oven! Delicious!

The next morning we drove to Edith Falls and hiked to the Upper Pool via the Leliyn Loop walk. It was just gorgeous:

That night Izzy and Adam made pasta from scratch while Cyn & I made Creme Catalina - we didn't have a blowtorch that worked well so it didn't work perfectly but the meal was delicious!

The next morning we drove home and stopped at Emerald Springs for lunch - I highly recommend!!!

It was an amazing weekend!!
