Challenge - Week 2 check in

Week 2 check in

Start weight: 74kg
Week 1 check in weight: 73kg
Week 2 check in weight: 71kg

Super happy how this week went with a 2kg weight loss!

I managed 3 x bootcamp sessions, 1 x run and 3 long walks with Declan in the pram. I have stuck to my calories on myfitnesspal and loving having something to focus on. Happy that the children are back at school so I can really get into exercise. Declan is unwell though so we headed to the doctor today before weigh in (so I will be doing bootcamp tonight to make up for it) and he has a cough, so hopefully the medicine will kick in soon. So awful seeing such a little bubba sick.

Warrior Operation Transformation - 8 Week Challenge

I am so excited to be starting this challenge!! This morning I went to the introductory session. Our weight and measurements were taken and before pictures! I didn't get a copy of my before pic but hopefully at the end I might be able to get a copy of my before and after pics so I have them for comparison! I was pretty happy with my stats since it is so soon since I had Declan. I have around 6kg to lose to get back into my healthy weight range, and I am already in the average range for body fat.

Start weight = 74kg
Goal weight = 66kg

My goals for the challenge are to:

1. Lose weight - goal is to lose at least 6kg to get to 68kg which is the top of my healthy weight range. I am really hoping I get to 66kg so then I only have a few more kg to go after that to get to my happy weight that I can easily maintain.

2. Lose inches - I want to get leaner - So even more so than weight I want to get leaner and fit into my old clothes!!

3. Lose bodyfat - My body fat was measured at 30% - and the average body fat % for women is between 25-31%, so I am just in the average range. My goal is to get into the fit range which is 19-25%. Even 24.9% I would be really happy with!

4. Improve my running and endurance - Since I have so many runs planned for this year I of course want this challenge to help with my endurance, fitness and running. I am sure it will - but this is a goal as well so I keep it in mind!

So Day 1 involved the intro session as I wrote above. It was fantastic. It really motivated me to think about food using the knowledge I have as well as the documentation the coaches from the challenge gave me. I have 1800 calories per day to eat since I am breastfeeding - thank goodness!

After dinner tonight my children, a lovely friend and I went for a 3km walk around Straits Quay here in Penang and it was lovely except it started to storm, so at the end we had to sprint back to the shopping centre to avoid the downpour! It showed we need to walk a bit earlier - so next time we meet up we will walk before dinner! Straits Quay is lovely for anyone wanting to visit Penang!

I'll be checking in every 2 weeks with an update!

Healthy Lifestyle..

Since I have had Declan I must admit our eating habits have been a little bad, and we haven't been terribly active which I guess is part and parcel with having a new baby! Now he is 8 weeks old it is time to step things up, and we have all agreed as a family that we are going to be healthier, and more active.

So as such, I am taking part in "Warrior Operation Transformation" which is an 8 week bootcamp program starting tomorrow with Warrior Boot Camp here in Penang. It basically encompasses 8 weeks of unlimited Bootcamp sessions, personalised assessments, nutritional guidance and diet planning. Tomorrow morning I have the first session which is where we do our initial measurements and weigh in and find out all the info. I am pretty excited!! Here is the brochure and details.

So since I am doing this program we decided as a family that it would be good to try to get the whole family healthier and fitter in 8 weeks. So some of the little things we will be doing are:

* Lunches will be packed everyday for school - which will be all healthy foods - so berries / yoghurt for morning tea, protein & salad wraps for lunch and a piece of fruit of the last break. I will make some healthy snacks to include - home made muesli bars / bliss balls etc as well.
* Each night we will be having salad / veggies with some sort of protein - either chicken, fish, pork etc. No packaged foods at all.
* Each night we will be doing a family walk. If the weather is terrible I will find something for us to do inside.. either a fun game on the XBOX that is active or the kids can do a fun exercise DVD with me. I am going to ensure we are active EVERYDAY. It is so tough living in an apartment for 3 pre-teen kids. They want to be active, but it can be difficult.. so it is up to us as their parents to make sure we give them the opportunity.
* When school returns they will be doing 3 sports a week for after school activities, as well as their normal swimming lessons. One of those after school sports will hopefully be swimming as I would like them to do even more swimming.
* I am going to ensure I get them to the pool on Saturday and Sunday to wear off some energy and get out of the apartment. It is so easy for me to have them stay inside, especially with Declan, but it is not the best thing for them. So even if Declan is sleeping I will make sure one of us takes them down for a swim.

The kids are pretty excited about walking every night so we are heading to a Sports shop tomorrow that is quite cheap to buy some new sports clothing so they feel and look the part! It is after all how you look according to my children!

I will be posting each day what food we are eating and all about our progress starting tomorrow!

Wish us luck!!

Lost World of Tambun

We decided to head to the Lost World of Tambun in Ipoh for a day trip.

I did check Trip Advisor and some of the comments were "nothing like Universal Studios but ok for a day trip".. so needless to say I tried to not have terribly high expectations.

Here we are at the front gate:

Map of the park

The pirate ship - everyone went on while Dec and I watched

The Boat Swing - Aunty Bea looked after Declan while we all went on this one. It actually got quite high and freaked me out LOL - I am a big wuss when it comes to heights.

The Tigers!

Isabel, Declan and me

The watersides and the lazy river

Pros of The Lost World of Tambun:

* Very quiet during the school term - there was hardly anyone there
* Friendly staff
* Great water slides and water play area for the children
* Heaps of parking and good facilities.
* Very affordable

Negatives:

* Quite small - only a few rides, and the roller coaster was not open which was a big disappointment
* You have to rent the tubes for the lazy river and the wave pool - this was a bit of a con and really disappointed us. Also it was not detailed anywhere so lots of people got to the start of the lazy river (including us) and looked around for the tubes to be told we had to go back to the rental area.. which was a bit of a walk! Better communication in this area would be great.
* Very little shade - Malaysia is hot hot hot - and it would've been better with more shade.

All in all we had a good day away from Penang - only 2 hours each way which wasn't too bad as we were expecting it to be longer with traffic. I would recommend people go to the Lost World of Tambun, but not to expect it to be like Adventure Cove waterpark in Singapore with the waterslides as it is nowhere like that.. but then it isn't in Singapore so that is to be expected.

Holiday planning...

Originally posted on 3 April 2015 - updated 21 September with plans! EDITED WITH - So far since receiving Declan's passport we have managed to travel to Hoi An, Da Nang & Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. I also took the children back to Australia for just over a week. We are heading to Singapore in October for a week, and then to Europe at Christmas. So the travelling has started!

One of the major bonuses of living in Penang is that it is the gateway to Asia and so close to Europe for travel. A bit further for the USA and pretty expensive so we will save that one up for our last trip before heading home to Australia. We haven't done any travel as yet as we are still waiting on Declan's passport. We should have that in the next few months so we can start organising trips! We have a massive list of places we want to go and things we want to see.
